  • I slept 45 minutes past my alarm today, woke up and rushed to get out of the house. Halfway to work, the van stalled, and then when I got to work it stalled four times just trying to back into a parking spot. "Oh shit!" I thought, as last time the van was in for service Dad was told it is not going to last much longer. I was getting low on gas, but decided not to fill up in case this was a sign of the van dying. I had no breakfast in me and had to grab a bagel from Tim's to eat while making waffles. I found the waffle area a mess again and the building was already hot and muggy, and very uncomfortable. When Vijay came in, he asked me how I was doing and when I described Dad's condition and then about the car, I suddenly burst into tears. He asked if I wanted to go home, and I said yes, but I need the money so I couldn't just skip work. I asked if I could make the waffles and then go, and he agreed. I also asked him to tell Trisha not to harass me for not helping her with customers. He must have spoken to her, because she barely even looked at me in the four hours I was there.

Anwyay, the waffles took me until nearly 2PM, and in the meantime I called the mechanic to ask about getting the car looked at. I was told they could look after it tomorrow, so I decided to drop the van off right after work rather than risk not being able to get home and back with the car. Mom picked me up at the shop and said she wanted to go grocery shopping, and upon questioning she said she hadn't had lunch. Neither had I, an I wasn't going to take her shopping on an empty stomach or she'd buy out the whole bakery department. We had lunch at Cora's, which she'd never tried before, and enjoyed it very much. When we went shopping, she picked out a lot of produce but still had to be told no for a lot of things. At one point I went to the washroom, and while I was away she put a bag of raisins in the cart. She likes to eat cereal with a HUGE mound of raisins on top, which gives her the runs and is far too high in sugar. Anyway, I found it when I went to check out, but she had run off to the deli to get mock chicken loaf (something I had repeatedly said no to) so I tossed the raisins out of the cart and checked out. I don't know what took her so long at the deli, but I was almost out the door when she showed up with the mock chicken. She called after me that she needed $5, and I said I didn't have it, I paid with a credit card. She paid for it with her own credit card, and never asked me for the money. Really, I had just spent $87 on groceries and conceded to a number of things she wanted but didn't need, and I had also spent $35 on lunch. She can be responsible for $5 in crappy cold cuts if she wants them badly enough.

We finally got home and the house was covered in clothes. Some were on hangers and hanging from doors, other were draped across furniture in the living room and bedrooms, and others were stuffed into garbage bags and placed randomly throughout the house. She says they'll be out of here tomorrow, so we'll see if that happens. I managed to stumble around the clothing and put away the groceries, and then I FINALLY got a cool shower and a nap.

I slept for an hour and went to visit Dad. I took him a bowl of melon chunks, which he looked interested in but he'd just eaten the hospital meat loaf and he was too full to have any. He was a bit confused to see me enter with two cans of diet Sprite, and a few minutes later he could only see one. He giggled a it when I showed him the other can was in a giant cup of ice I'd brought in for him. Methinks he is slightly out of it! He seems mostly with it though. A nurse came in to take his vital stats, and asked if he knew where he was, what the name of the building was. He looked at me, looking a bit scared as he obviously knew where he was but couldn't remember the name of the hospital as it changed a couple of years ago and we always refer to it by the old name. Anyway, he managed to indicate that he knew where he was by saying "I can't remember, this hospital has a stupid name now." She accepted that answer. LOL

Gilly called while I was there, and Dad really smiled when he was talking to her. After a minute or two he passed the phone to me, and I just said hello and said we'd talk later. I filled Dad in on Mom's antics at the grocery store, and he was amused. Then the announcement that visiting hours were over was broadcast. i asked if he wanted a drink or a pee or anything before I left, and he thought about it for a few seconds before deciding to take me up on the offer. He got up without too much difficulty, but when he lay back down he had the bed too low and he fell backward, hitting his head on the railing on the other side. I managed to get him straightened around, got him back into a comfortable position in bed, and then said good night.

He had a CAT scan and chest x-ray today, one right after the other. He said they're also doing blood cultures to see if he has some kind of infection. His belly is huge but he's not in discomfort from it, and the doctor said he won't drain the fluid right now because every time he does it takes all the protein out of Dad's body and weakens him again. At this point Dad is so weak, it would do him more harm than good to drain his belly. I'm hoping they find the cause of the problem really soon so they can do something about it. Dad is getting more and more discouraged, and he needs something to give him hope if he has any chance of recovery.

  • Trisha called in sick today, so at least work was not terribly stressful. Lara told Vijay she wants her own son fired to teach him a lesson, but I doubt he'll do it. Trisha came in at some point and Vijay kept her talking in his office for a very long time. Apparently last night Trisha said she wasn't feeling well, but instead of punching out she just sat in the back room while getting paid. After an hour or so, Michelle told her to go home as she was just wasting time. Trisha went to Andrew's baseball game, and Lara caught her there. Busted! Nobody is amused, except perhaps me because Vijay is finally starting to realise Trisha is not going to improve and is just laughing at him for not firing her.

As I was finishing my lunch, I saw Dorian/Elvis Priestly walk into the store so I filled him in on my dad. He said he'd drop in and see him.

Anyway, I left work about 4PM and went to Woodbridge to take my camera to the shop for repair before the warranty runs out. The flash stopped working again on the weekend, so I'm getting it checked out while it's simple and free to do so. However, the shop is a Steeles and Keele, so the drive down at rush hour was a bitch. It took me 10 minutes on the highway, and then 25 minutes on Steeles. Ugh. It was hot and sticky, traffic was standing still, and some bastard was smoking out his window so I could neither open my windows nor run the fan to keep me from overheating. Fortunately the parking at the shop was fully shaded, so I dropped off my camera and crossed the road on foot to get a cold drink in a coffee shop and wait for the traffic to clear out. I waited an hour before returning to the van for a half hour nap, and it was nearly 7PM when I woke up and found the traffic clear enough for me to head home.

I visited Dad as soon as I got back, and he said he was worse today than yesterday. However, I could understand him better today, he was more talkative and he stayed a wake longer. He asked for help sitting up, and then he sat on the bed for a few minutes looking out the window and identifying buildings on Main Street.I helped him back into bed and we chatted a few minutes more, and then Dad mentioned the ribs I brought home from last night's dinner. It reminded me I hadn't eaten and I said I was hungry, so he told me to go home and eat.

A few minutes ago I got a call from the president of my dad's model aircraft club, asking for an update on my dad. I told him there wasn't much to update, that nobody really knows what's wrong with him and they're going to put off his next chemo until they figure out what's going on. He asked if my dad was going to make it. I don't know. Nobody knows. Cec appreciated my honesty and asked about visiting Dad. Dad doesn't want any visitors, and it's probably for the best so he doesn't get an infection or anything. Still, Cec wants to help in some way, and he's not sure how to do it. I told him I appreciated his calling to check up on things. He asked when he could call and speak to me instead of Mom, as he noticed my view of things is more realistic than hers.

I wish I had some answers.

  • Today I was later than usual getting to work due to my allergy shot, and as a result it took me all day to make the waffles. That is, literally ALL DAY. I told Vijay when I arrived that I would leave at 3PM so I'd have time to visit Dad before going out for the evening, and he said that was fine. Then I had to spend the next hour cleaning the waffle-making area because the staff that worked last night made no effort to clean it and there was chocolate and broken waffles everywhere. The counter was filthy and so was all the equipment. I didn't get to start actually making waffles until after the lunch crowd was served.

Of course, the little bastards Trisha and Andrew were angry at me because I was working away on the waffles and keeping an eye to make sure they actually worked. Trisha kept working on novelties, approaching me several times to ask what she should make. i was pleased with that. Andrew, on the other hand, kept his usual routine of standing beside her doing absolutely nothing. I kept giving him tasks, and he didn't like that. As 3PM neared, I still had loads of batter left because I had to keep stopping to serve customers. Eventually I refused to serve any more customers, and told Andrew to call Janet instead. He got nasty with me and said it "wouldn't kill me" to stop for 5 minutes. I was insistent that he should call Janet, and he still wouldn't. I held firm and he eventually asked Janet, who had no problem coming out to help. Honestly, if I was able to stop for 5 minutes I would have used that time to eat lunch. Instead, I worked straight through and made a milkshake in between waffles because I was so hungry.

I finally got finished and cleaned up, and made myself a burger and onion rings to take with me to hospital. I made Dad two chicken strips as well. As I assembled my burger, Andrew grunted at me again, "I don't suppose you could help us for five minutes, could you." I finally flipped on him, and said my father was in hospital and might not be coming out this time, and my priority is getting out of there to see him while I still can. He didn't respond, and I don't know whether it even got through to him. I'd really love to give him a kick in the head. Anyway, I bagged my food and took off.

When I got to Dad's room, he was sound asleep. He opened one eye a little when I spoke to him, and he tried to speak but was unintelligible. He eyed the bag of food in my hand, and I told him I had chicken strips for him. He opened both eyes and hurriedly pressed the button to sit the bed up so he could have one. He asked for some water, which made him easier to understand as his mouth wasn't all dried out any more. He slowly ate the chicken strip, closing his eyes and savouring every bite. I kept hearing people in the hallway saying "Man, something smells good in here! It smells like KFC! I want some now!" Dad only managed to get through one strip, but that was enough to make us both happy. He fell asleep shortly afterward, as I was telling him about the teppanyaki chef flinging eggs and me, Gilly, and Luc when we went for dinner last night. He laughed a bit at that, then passed out. He's very white again today, and his belly is huge again although he says he's not feeling pressure like he needs to be drained.

I went to the nursing station and spoke to his nurse about some unusual swelling that doesn't seem to be going down. Mom has asked about it many times, but hopefully my asking about it will get some reaction. The nurse said she'd talk to the doctor about it. I returned to Dad's room and sat watching him sleep for half an hour or so, then woke him briefly to say good night and I left. I got home in time to have a short nap myself, which was good as i had to drive so many people to my meeting.

Silly me, I booked dinner a kosher restaurant on a Jewish holiday, so the place was closed. I found out last night and changed tot he Pickle Barrel up the street, but unfortunately didn't manage to reach everybody in time. Still, most of the group made it anyway, and we had a good time.

    And now, I'm pooped.

  • This evening, Dad was moved out of the isolation room and into a semi-private room. His haemoglobin count is up to 98, and his really friendly male nurse, Sean, convinced him to take a walk tot he elevators and back. As a result, Dad's oxygen level went up a few points. Sean said he'd work on making Dad walk more, and Dad told me he needs to spend less time in bed so I guess that means he's willing to try.

He's still very weak, but he's making progress!

  • Yesterday was a busy day. It started with lots of laundry and bathroom scrubbing, and stipping of bed and Febreeze and opening of windows to air the place out. To my surprise, Mom actually opened her own bedroom window. normally she hates having windows open, and even seems a bit fearful of it.

Anyway, we went to visit Dad next. He's in an isolation room, and to see him we all had to wear masks, gowns, and gloves. He had received two blood transfusions overnight. They obviously did him a lot of good, as his face was pink and he was able to sit up on the side of the bed without wobbling. When we got there he was eating his lunch, and although he only ate half his salmon sandwich, I was really happy to see him eating anything at all. I should take him his Ovaltine and see if he'll drink it.

Mom asked what Dad had for lunch, and he offered her the other half of his sandwich. Mom was going to take off her mask and just sit there and eat it, but we told her to, she had to wait until we left the room before she could remove her mask. She acted like we were being ridiculous, and said "I won't tell anyone, it'll be alright." We did manage to convince her not to remove her mask, but she still thought we were stupid for following the quarantine rules. I'll have to mention it to CCAC and the doctor as further evidence of her lack of understanding of the gravity of the situation.

Dad was in good spirits, although he's still very weak and has to use a commode beside the bed and get the nurse to help him clean up after. He has a nice view from his room, but his bed faces the wrong way to see it properly. Still, he gets lots of sunlight and that makes the room feel warm and not so empty and sterile. We visited for maybe an hour, and then headed out to go to Diana's wedding.

We were the first non-related guests to arrive, and we only got there an hour before the ceremony was supposed to start. The best man was on his way in from Montreal and got lost on his way, and was quite late. Even the officiant was late! Still, everything went smoothly once everyone arrived. The ceremony was lovely, with the unusual touch of being bilingual as the groom is French-Canadian and the bride's family speaks English. the officiant stood in the aisle and Diana and Mathieu stood under a floral arch, facing the audience. It was great because we could see and hear everything that was happening, and it was easy to take pictures. Unfortunately I had not formatted my camera card before the wedding, and I ended up running out of space very quickly and had to delete a lot of stuff manually while the ceremony was going on. I still managed to get some good shots, and followed the French and English without difficulty.

After the ceremony Diana's dad got up and made a speech and a toast, making a real effort to speak French and butchering the language in the process. Still, the French guests seemed quite pleased that he made the effort, and everyone enjoyed the champagne. Photos followed, and I managed to sneak a dirty comment in Diana's ear as we posed for photos together. She laughed and nobody else heard it, but she still ended up repeating it aloud! LOL The bouquet was thrown, and Diana pretty well threw it right to me. I caught it football-style against my chest, and Diana's aunt got a really good picture of me that I hope to get a copy of at some point. Tree of the rose heads broke off when I made the catch, so I gave one each to Gilly, Victoria and Jacqui. There were still more than a dozen pink and white roses in the bunch, and I'm going to see if i can get them to root, just to see if I can manage it.

The reception was very informal, and had the feel of a back yard barbecue party. Dee and Mat changed into regular clothes and we sat around on the lawn with paper plates and glasses of wine. A laptop was set up with speakers to play music, but something went wrong and they couldn't get it started so it was a quiet party. We had some good food and good conversation, and Diana spent most of the evening sitting with our little group. Our group consisted of me and Gilly, Jacqui and Victoria from Rangers and Rovers. Mat came over and joined us a couple of times, and was always confused at what we were talking about as he'd walk in after we'd made some dirty joke and he would end up being the butt of it. He's a good sport though, and went along with it. It's only the second time I've met him, and he seems like a really nice guy. I really hope things go well for them.

We stayed outside until dusk, and everyone was very tired from being in the sun all afternoon so the party broke up about 9PM. Jacqui gave us a ride home in her new car. At that point Diana and Gilly were both moderately drunk, and although I had had a few glasses of wine I was just mellow and sleepy. It was a very enjoyable evening. We are now planning a belated bachelorette party for Diana, and picked a date last night. Now we just have to decide whether to go to the strippers or have a sex toy party with Diana getting the hostess gifts!

  • Gilly: "I went to Wendy's for a Big Bacon Classic. It came with all this stuff on it, but I pulled the lettuce out because it was stupid."

  • This morning I woke with the urge to pee, but when I went into the hallway I heard my dad calling hoarsely, "Whoever's there, I need help!" I went right in and he was lying awkwardly on the edge of the bed, no underpants on and a clean pair in his hand, and a mess I care not to describe. He had gotten up at some point to use the toilet, and didn't quite make it. He was able to take of his boxers but was too weak to get another pair on. I did my best to get him sorted out, and then had to clean up the bathroom before I could finally pee and then get into the shower.

When I got out Dad told me he wanted a mug of beef broth, so when I got my own breakfast I got him his broth and sat in his room while he drank it. He's so weak he could barely sit up, and he had to hold the mug with two hands. He enjoyed the broth, handed me the mug and lay back down. I asked if he was going to shower, and he said he knew he should but he didn't think he could manage it even with help. Mom was passed out in Gilly's room, except for one brief moment where she started yelling from bed trying to figure out what was going on and i had to tell her to knock it off because I couldn't hear what Dad was saying.

When I got to work, I called CCAC immediately. I knew a nurse was going in to see him and had been doing so daily for a while now. I told Dad's case manager, Carole, that he hadn't been eating and was barely drinking, was incredibly weak and needed bathing but couldn't do it. She was very alarmed and said she'd notify the nurse, and try to get a doctor to visit the house. She also said she'd try to get a social worker to visit the house with her sometime, as she herself is supposed to drop in but still hasn't after all these months.

An hour or so later, the nurse phoned me and said she felt Dad should be in hospital, ad she wanted to call 911 but he wouldn't allow it. She said legally, as a health care professional, she wasn't allowed to do it without his permission. I told her to tell Mom and that Mom would call. She seemed doubtful about that, but I insisted she try, and if Mom didn't follow through then I would call when I got home. I knew mom would make the call because he looked so awful, and I figured if he was going to go in he'd better go during the day so he has a chance of getting admitted by evening.

Sure enough, Mom did call the ambulance, and gave them the letter written by the nurse explaining her concerns. Dad refused to go, but after some persuading the paramedics convinced him to go. They tried to put in an IV before they left, but they were unable to find a vein. Upon arriving at the hospital he was put on an IV and moved into an acute care room. They took some blood, put him on oxygen and put on a blood pressure and heart monitor. Shortly after taking the blood samples, the nurse returned saying she needed more blood because the first sample was diluted. They were shocked when the results of the second sample were the same as the first. The haemoglobin count, normally 130 and considered to be low at 100, was down to 60. In plain words, he was so anaemic they didn't know how he was still alive. They started a blood transfusion right away, and he's currently sleeping on his hospital stretcher, with a germ mask on his face and a bunch of tubes and things hooked up to him. He's no longer angry at being forced into hospital. The home nurse had told him his condition could be life-threatening and he told her he didn't care. I think he just didn't want to believe her.

Anyway, he's going to be admitted tonight, and it's unknown how long he will have to stay. While he's in, I'll have to try to get some housework done I've been putting off. The bathroom needs a very thorough cleaning, the bedroom too, and Mom wants to put away her winter wardrobe and sort out some clothes to give to the church rummage sale next weekend. Mom talked about the smell in the bedroom and wanting to put one of those plug-in air fresheners in, but I told her not to as it's such awful sickening stuff and the smell is hard to get rid of once you put it in. I'll have to Febreeze the mattress and carpet and leave the windows open for a couple days to air out. Come to think of it, I should do that now and get it over with.

  • It just occurred to me that I hadn't posted a real update in quite some time.

I had a shitty day at work today. All week, Trisha has been rude and obnoxious and basically doing whatever she can to piss me off. Today Janet told her off for something, and Trisha didn't say anything, but squinted her eyes and glared at Janet. We both keep complaining to Vijay, but he's not doing much about it. To make matters worse, our new Brazier guy quit, so Andrew has been coming in on some days. When he and Trisha work at the same time, they just stand around in drive-through with their hands in their pockets, doing shit all. On Tuesday they did that all day, with Vijay watching via the new cameras the whole time, and when the shift changed and they were still on of another three hours the two of them went out and sat in Trisha's car for ages. Phonethip went out at one point and asked what they were doing, and they said since they worked all day they should be allowed to "chill" for the last 3 hours of their shifts. And these two are supposed to be shift managers. Michelle, who was scheduled as the shift manager at the time, was pissed off at them but didn't do anything about it because she said nothing she could say would make them do anything. They only moved from the car when Andrew's mom showed up. He ducked down in the car so as not to be seen, and when Lara went inside the building he pretended he had been at Tim Horton's and entered through the side door. Lying son of a bitch.

Anyway, Phonethip told me about this, and I got her to tell Vijay. Vijay tried to tell me she stayed out there with them, but I don't buy that. Phonethip was pissed off enough by their behaviour, there's no way she would have hung out with them too. Michelle also made a complaint. When they both came in to work yesterday, Vijay sent Andrew home, but didn't tell him why. He just said we had more staff than we needed. This morning Lara came in with Andrew, and there was a big discussion that I just avoided and went about my work. Apparently the other night she kept telling trisha to do her job, and each time Trisha would go in the office and call Andrew and complain about him, calling her a bitch and such. So Lara's pissed off, but blaming everything on Trisha, and Andrew's getting away with murder too, and Vijay claims he'd fire them if they were "really obnoxious" but he claims they aren't yet. I think he's just making excuses because if he fires them it's him that has to take up the slack until he can hire some more managers. The trouble is, he doesn't want to hire adults. He wants to hire kids because they're cheap, even though they don't actually do anything and they're just a waste of his money.

Anyway, I corrected Trisha on something today, something that has been a rule for me and Janet for many months. Trisha started yelling at me, and I just snapped at her and said that I'm her manager, and we make rules for a reason, and she needs to stop freaking out every time I give her an instruction that she doesn't understand. She ran to Vijay, who overruled me. When I told him the reasoning behind my instruction and that Janet and I had been doing it this way for ages, he said we were being unreasonable. I hardly think it's unreasonable to keep to a rule that if somebody wants a cake, they must come in and get it themselves rather than expecting us to hurt our backs leaning out the drive-through window with one. Not to mention, they tell you to select a cake and write on it, but then you go to give it to them and they don't like the one you picked. I've seen it happen, and Janet and I said enough was enough, we're insisting people come in unless they are physically incapable of entering the building.

So yeah. Vijay told me, in front of Trisha, that my rule was unreasonable and that I was being silly. And of course, Trisha is going to run home and tell Andrew and they'll laugh at me and their defiant attitudes will get even worse. I tried to talk to Vijay about this but he wouldn't listen, and kept telling me I was overreacting and that he hadn't undermined my authority. I told him if I ever spoke to him the way she speaks to me I'd be fired, and he waved his hand and said that wouldn't happen. If it wasn't going to totally screw me over with the kids and with a reference for the next job, I'd test that theory. He told me I could take a break in the back until I was ready to work again, and I sat there thinking once again that it might be time to find a new job. I take this kind of bullshit at home all the time, and I'll be damned if I'll put up with it at work, too. Hell, Janet would gladly give me a reference and keep it confidential if I asked her to. She and I get along great. I just have no idea where I would apply. Grocery cashiers are required to sell tobacco, which I refuse to do. Although I've talked about Tim's before, I don't think fast food is going to get me anywhere, and it sure as hell won't get me away from snotty teenagers. Maybe Costco would be a good place to apply for a cashier job, as I hear they pay well and give you a free membership.

Anyway, work ended well int hat Trisha left at 3PM and the kids that came in for the next shift were enthusiastic about making novelties. The trainees started it by asking questions about what I was making, and I asked the experienced kids to teach them. When we ran out of peanuts and couldn't make any more Buster Bars, somebody actually asked me if she could make Treatza Pizzas. Huzzah! I'll go in tomorrow and probably have to dip and bag them all, although they were so keen and the weather's iffy so they might get around to some of that stuff too. We might actually stockpile sufficient novelties for the weekend!

Last night I finally saw Pan's Labyrinth, and it was really good. i missed the first few minutes, and right after I sat down and started eating my dinner sandwich I'd snuck in, I saw a scene that made me feel ill for a couple of minutes. The violence in this movie is more disturbing than most I've seen. but then, it serves its purpose in creating a contrast between the brutality of life and the innocence of a little girl. i was impressed with the two heroines, one a child and the other a grown woman. It's definitely worth seeing if you haven't caught it already.

I didn't mention that last weekend, I went to a local fruit winery and arranged a wine tasting for the singles' club. The owner gave me free samples, and we had a nice long chat. Dad had wanted to go with me and have some samples himself, but he wasn't feeling well that day so I bought him a bottle of Proprieter's Reserve wine, made of elderberries, blueberries, and strawberries. It's very dry and very, very rich, and is just crying out for prime rib. Dad got excited at the mention of prime rib, and I said I'd make him a fancy supper this weekend when Gilly's home so we can try the wine with it.

I hope he's up for the meal this weekend. He's off his food again. He drinks milk and juices because he's worried about dehydration, but yesterday he had a bowl of cereal and today he had a hunk of watermelon Mom served him in bed. He won't eat anything else. She tried buying calves' liver as he really loves it, but he couldn't be tempted. I made a bunch of suggestions to him, but he's not interested in anything. I'm considering calling CCAC, but I know he'll get angry if I do and he'll be nasty to the nurse again. Still, something's not right when he won't eat anything at all.

Speaking of food, I haven't had any myself yet. I'm gonna go eat.

  • This morning Dad, Mom and I had a big yelling match right off the bat. Mom was pestering me about the $30 as she got in the shower, and when I went into their bedroom Dad said he'd go to the bank today and get her the money from his own account. I reminded him about the apples and buttertarts that began her descent into her old eating habits with her diet after a year and a half of being healthy, and he finally got what I was saying. When Mom finished her shower I told her she had just had a $165 bill paid for her, and that there was no way she was owed $30, regardless of whether i paid her the $80 she claims I never paid to her. Then Dad admitted he paid another $120 onto her card last week, at which point she threw a screaming fit and he told her if she couldn't keep track of these things herself she had to hand over her Mastercard. She told him she would give him the card, although I don't know if she will. Anyway, it was a victory in that when it came down to it, he backed me up in my argument that she had been fleecing him and we wouldn't let her get away with it.

We had to work together to get Dad's green van and Mom's old dying Red van to the mechanic to take the best of the tires put on the green van before scrapping the red one. Many times this morning I said to both of my parents that I would be getting off work at 4PM, they needed to pick me up and get me home ASAP so I could shower and nap before going out with the singles' club. I had a hell of a day at work, and had to insist to Vijay that I can't work until 5PM. So of course, when I left at 4PM, there was no sign of my mother. I called her cell several times before she answered, and she said she was playing cards and would be there in 15 minutes. It was already 4:15, and she still had to finish her card game, pack up her scooter, and drive down from Holland Landing to the south end of Newmarket! She'd be AT LEAST half an hour! I was really pissed off. I tried phoning Dad multiple times. Calling home I just got the answering machine, where I left a message. I tried his cell too but of course the jackass left it turned off again so it's completely useless. ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why do both of my parents have to be so useless?!!!

I was so angry I couldn't just sit there and wait. I set off on foot to go to the garage, and after a couple of blocks Dad called my cell asking if I'd heard from Mom. When I told him she was playing cards, he got all angry too. He said I should phone the garage for a ride, but it's so close to work it would have been no faster to wait for a ride than to walk the rest of the way. Besides, I didn't have the phone number. Dad said he would phone the mechanic and ask if the vans were finished, and if any further work needed doing and so on. I got to the garage and found that Dad hadn't actually phoned, but it turned out he wasn't needed there anyway as the mechanic sis the work for free since we give him so much business.

Frazzled, I drove the red van home, not thinking that I should have taken the green van to drive to Richmond Hill for the evening. When I got home I told Dad off for not leaving his phone on or answering the house phone. He claims it never rang, but clearly it did because the answering machine was picking up. I asked why he wasn't carrying his cell phone on him in case he fell like he said he would, and he said he only needs to do that in the basement. I pointed out that he could have fallen while home alone and he would have no way to call for help. He would not admit that there was any lack of judgement on his part, and instead got mad at me for being angry that both he and Mom lack any kind of forethought. his attitude is that nothing is ever his fault, even when clearly it is. He told me if I was angry I shouldn't take it out on him, and I said it wasn't my fault if I didn't have anybody to talk to about this and if he's part of the problem then I have every right to be angry at him too. The asshole told me to yell down the toilet.

I got in the shower and he continued yelling at me, and I told him I couldn't hear him so he might as well not bother. Mom came home at that point, and  ambled into the bathroom, parking herself on the toilet. I told her I needed to take a nap before going out but there was no time now, and even if there had been time I was so angry I wouldn't be able to sleep. Dad yelled at her, she yelled back her usual "Tough!" "That's too bad!" and "Aren't you perfect!" phrases that piss us off so much. I told her if I got in an accident from falling asleep driving it would be her fault, and I started sobbing uncontrollably in the shower. "Yeah right!" She shouted. She kept saying she never plays cards any more because she always stays home with Dad. She could not understand why it was wrong to go play cards on the one day we were both relying on her to be available, when she can play cards 6 days a week any other time. She claimed she deserved to go today because she'd been looking after Dad. He started yelling and swearing at her that he spent 30 years staying home looking after her, putting her first and doing everything for her, and after four months she just can't cut it looking after him. it's absolutely true, too. He said it was a waste of time sending her to her psychologist, and said he wished she could hear Mom right now to prove what a lunatic she is. Mom kept up her broken record thing and Dad told her to shut the hell up as he was tired of hearing it. She kept it up, and I got so pissed off I pulled back the shower curtain and sprayed her with the hose for about 15 seconds. She waved her hands about but made no effort to get her fat ass off the toilet. I should have turned it to cold. That might have had more impact.

I shut off the shower, grabbed my towel and threw the shower chair violently into the shower before storming off into my room. I got dressed and got the hell out of here as quickly as possible, and went out for some falafel for supper to calm down before going out to meet the club. Dad told Mom that since she fucked things up I would be driving her van to my meeting, which I did with great satisfaction. Fortunately it was a good meeting tonight, with me and Melanie and a pile of guys playing pool. I made a point of not mentioning any of the bullshit from home, and I felt good to abandon it for the time I could. Of course, I'm still angry because I'm up way later than I should be, typing up all this stuff.

To top things off, I had promised the red van to a charity that fixes vehicles for low-income families by cannibalising dead cars, but Mom made arrangements for somebody else to tow it away instead. I had told her a couple of weeks ago that I'd promised it to the charity, and she had given her blessing. She's only doing this to be a spiteful bitch, and in the process she's taking away from a charity that could use the van rather than just sticking it in a big compacter with a bunch of other dead cars.I had to e-mail the guy from the charity and apologise for not following through on my promise.

Tonight she told me we had to go pick up the green van tonight because of the scrap guy coming in the morning, and I told her Dad would take me over to get it. I hope he decides to go grocery shopping and to Tim Horton's and stuff, just to leave her without a vehicle for a chunk of the day. The selfish cow needs to be grounded for a while after acting out like this. She pulls this shit because there are no consequences, and it's about fucking time she gets punished for causing so much trouble.
